How does Geico insurance rank?
Geico ranked 7th out of 15 on our annual list of the top car insurance providers. It earned solid marks for customer satisfaction, lower premiums than its biggest competitors and strong financial stability. It’s also available nationwide, making it an easy choice no matter where you live.
Although the company did not rank in the top half for auto claims satisfaction in the 2024 J.D. Power consumer survey, its 7th place finish did put it just into the top half of our ranking.
Here's a look at how it compared to a selection of competitors.
Company | AM Best | J.D. Power auto claims satisfaction | NAIC complaint ratio* | Average annual premium(out of 5) | Overall score |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Geico | A++ | 871 | 0.91 | 3.99 | 4.20 |
Nationwide | A | 875 | 0.64 | 4.76 | 4.33 |
State Farm | A++ | 891 | 0.7 | 3.23 | 4.27 |
Progressive | A+ | 870 | 0.65 | 3.15 | 4.33 |
*The lower a company’s score, the fewer the number of complaints filed with the NAIC. A score higher than 1.0 means it had a higher-than-average number of complaints.

What do people ask about Geico Insurance?
To help you decide if Geico is right for you, we sought out common questions asked about Geico online and answer them right here.
Why does Geico keep raising prices?
If your Geico car insurance rate is going up on every renewal, there are number of possible culprits, including changes in your driver profile or household. If there are no changes, however, the rate increases are likely due to across-the-board rate hikes that are being seen with every company as a result of the increased costs of parts and labor as well as increased severe weather. As insurance companies have to pay out more in claims, they raise their rates to make up for it.
Why can’t I get auto insurance with Geico?
Car insurance companies turn down applications when the driver doesn’t meet the company’s requirements for coverage. This is usually due to risk; a driver who presents a risk that’s unacceptable to the company’s underwriting department will be declined. If you have been turned down online, call Geico directly to discuss the issue and find out if the decision can be reversed.
Is Geico a good insurance company?
